Our design is called “ Soldering Iron Smoking Hood”. The purpose of the design is to remove harmful fumes effectively and protect workers’ health. During the invention process, we went through many modifications and thought about how to set up the smoke hood on the soldering gun. Finally, we took Tr. Kuan's advice and used a desk lamp as a stand for the prototype, which allowed for flexibility and the addition of more functions.
The Kaohsiung exhibition(KIDE) was our first competition and we learned a lot from it. Based on the valuable experience, I refined the presentation slides, revised the website content, simulated possible questions from the judges, and prepared DMs and name cards. Because there were only two people in our group who went to the Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exposition (IPITEx). I practiced and prepared continuously, worked and rehearsed with my only partner to get everything ready, even on the plane and in the shuttle bus. I hope we can do our best to achieve the highest honor at the IPITEx.
As I stepped into the IPITEx exhibition hall, I was amazed by its grand scale. Instead of feeling nervous, I was filled with excitement because I knew I was fully prepared. I greeted people with a smile and politely offered them the DM, then stepped forward to introduce our products to them as best as I could. Although some people refused to take my DM, which made me feel a bit awkward, it did not back me down. I remained determined, refusing to give up on my pursuit of excellence.
Because we can respond to the judge’s questions instantly and correctly during the review process, luckily we won the rare opportunity to have a presentation on the stage.I was very glad to hear about that because the revised PowerPoint was ready, and I had practiced it so many times. It made me understand what Tr. Kuan always reminded us: “ To finish tomorrow’s work by yesterday, and examine it today.”
Eventually, we got the gold medal. I would appreciate Tr. Kuan, my partner, and my parents’ support. I hope we can enhance our prototype with an air purifier and LED lights, then join more international exhibitions to show the advantages and help people to get away from harmful soldering fumes.
